ABOUT ME

Kaifeng Huang, known professionally as Kafoona, is an emerging musician and music therapy advocate currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. As a rising senior, Kafoona has studied under distinguished faculty including McGregor Boyle and Sam Pluta, where he developed advanced skills in music production, recording techniques, and electronic composition.

Kafoona is active as a recording artist. Among his various projects, his collaboration with Musom on the track “Homer” earned a Gold Award at the Audio Engineering Society Madrid Student Recording Competition for traditional studio recording. His work often blends live performance with music therapy, as demonstrated during a six-week study abroad at the Langa Love-Life Centre in South Africa. There, Kafoona provided music lessons and performances for HIV patients, making a meaningful impact on individuals ranging from ages 6 to 70. He has also performed at Mercy Hospital and Johns Hopkins Hospital as part of the Musicare group.

In addition to his work in music therapy, Kafoona has showcased his talents as a performer with ensembles such as the Berklee Jazz Vocal Ensemble and the Peabody Hip-Hop Ensemble. He has also participated in the Peabody Laptop Ensemble, where he collaborated with other electronic artists using Max/MSP. Kafoona continues to bridge the gap between therapeutic and experimental music as an evolving electronic artist and singer-songwriter.

Balancing performance with academic inquiry, Kafoona is currently researching the occupational health of guitarists at Peabody while mastering various production tools such as Ableton Live and Logic Pro X. His work pushes the boundaries of music performance, wellness, and innovation.

This is where I share my love for music and connect with my audience. From original compositions to behind-the-scenes footage, I aim to provide an immersive experience for music enthusiasts. Your support and feedback inspire me to continue creating and sharing my art. Feel free to explore and be part of this musical journey with me.
